Understanding Exam Scores

2 min read Reviewed Mar 31, 2026

Your final score combines your test result with any verified credits, and sets your list rank.

This explains the Get Scored step of your civil service journey.

Your final score determines where you land on the eligible list. It starts with your test (or EEE) result, then adds any verified credits you qualify for — such as Veterans' Credit (§85), Legacy Credit (§85-a), or residency points. These credits are unofficial estimates until DCAS verifies them. A higher score means a lower (better) list number. Ties are usually broken by a published rule. You can protest or appeal certain scoring decisions within set time windows described in your result notice.

This guide is informational and is not legal advice. For a determination about your specific situation, contact DCAS or submit an inquiry.
