Testing accommodations (ADA)

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, candidates with a disability or medical condition may request reasonable accommodations for a civil service exam. DCAS reviews each request individually.

Submit at least 30 days before your test date

Accommodation requests must be received no later than 30 days before the scheduled exam so DCAS has time to review documentation and arrange the accommodation. Submit as early as possible after filing.

Examples of accommodations

Extended testing time

Additional time to complete written or performance tests.

Accessible formats

Large print, braille, screen-reader-compatible materials.

Reader / scribe / interpreter

Assistive personnel or sign-language interpretation.

Accessible test site

Wheelchair-accessible rooms, low-distraction environments.

What to include in your request

  • The exam title and number you're requesting accommodations for.
  • A description of the accommodation(s) you need.
  • Supporting documentation from a qualified professional. DCAS will tell you exactly what to upload securely — don't attach medical records to a general message.
